Another great Memorial Day weekend in Stockton. Our only guest this year was cousins Walter and Georgia, who came up Sunday for the SHS alumni gathering and the services on Memorial Day.
As usual, the city-wide garage / yard sale had been planned and setup for Saturday. During our morning walk to the Post Office, we visited a few of the garage sales - our only purchase was a couple of packages of gold color Christmas tree decorating rope, which we probably will have forgotten about by time to decorate the next tree! There was so much going on in Stockton (lol) that we drove to Glade for lunch at the Triple C.
In Stockton, the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend is reserved for high school class reunions and the annual SHS Alumni gathering. The 'gathering', which is open to any graduate of Stockton High School and guest, consists of a time of fellowship, a great catered evening meal, and a business meeting which includes reports from classes celebrating milestone reunions. Since Willardene is a graduate of SHS, we go to this event nearly every year. The attendance continues to decline each year. This year there were no attendees from the last 25 graduating classes. The newest milestone class reunion recognized was the 50th year (class of 1959), which had a real good turn-out. We need ideas on how to get younger graduates to show an interest in this great annual event.
Memorial Day had the traditional ceremony by the local VFW in the Stockton Cemetery. It is always an impressive event considering the small size of our community. Below are a few pictures from the ceremony.
As usual, Willardene arranged for members of the McClellan clan to gather at a local restaurant for lunch on Memorial Day. Willardene's grandmother was a McClellan. This year at least a dozen McClellan descendants were able to make the lunch gathering. Pictures below.
